Independent wins Roing seat

Itanagar, Dec 7 (UNI) Independent candidate Laeta Umbrey, a Congress deserter, dwarfed his Congress and BJP rivals in a triangular contest to emerge victorious in the December four bye-election to Roing assembly seat with a margin of 365 votes.

Umbrey bagged 4572 votes; Congress' Dature Miuli got 4107 votes while opposition BJP candidate Raje Menjo could only manage 326 votes.

Of the total 12,299 electors, seventy per cent had cast their votes on December four election to the seat which had fallen vacant following the resignation of sitting Congress MLA Mukut Mithi after he was appointed as Lt. Governor of Puducherry.

Mr Umbrey a former MP had deserted the Congress after he was denied party ticket. He was expelled from the party for six years describing his nomination against party nominee as anti-party activity.

Meanwhile, state government spokesman and Water Resources Minister Tako Dabi congratulated Mr Umbrey accepting party's defeat in the election as the mandate of the people.
