HCU VC elected to German Academy of Sciences
Hyderabad, Dec 7 (UNI) Vice-Chancellor of the University of Hyderabad, Seyed E Hasnain has been elected as a member of the prestigious Deutsche Akademie Der Naturforscher, Leopoldina (German Academy of Sciences, Leopoldina).
It is for the first time that an Indian Biologist, after nobel laureate Prof Hargobind Khurana has been elected to this internationally renowned 350 year-old academy, a press release said here today.
''I am overwhelmed by this recognition and it's a great honour personally to me and to the University of Hyderabad. I will strive to bring greater accolades to the University,'' said Dr Hasnain on being elected to this prestigious Academy.
The German Academy of Sciences follows a highly stringent selection process, in which a Presidium of office-bearers and 28 other elected representatives of different section of the Academy elect a new member through secret ballot.
Three quarters of the members of the Academy come from German speaking countries --Germany, Austria and Switzerland --and the remaining one quarter from another 30 or more countries, the release added.
