Govt should resolve plight of Sikkim Manipal Med Col students

New Delhi, Dec 7 (UNI) Raising the plight of the students of Sikkim Manipal Medical college which is yet to receive the recognition from the Medical Council of India (MCI), Nakul Das Rai (SDF) requested the Chair to direct the Government to take note of this.

The issue should be resolved at the earliest to save the year of medical students, he said in the Lok Sabha during the Zero Hour.

Ramji Lal Suman (SP) raised the issue of acute fertiliser shortage in Uttar Pradesh, which he said was much more serious than last year and insisted the Government make a reply on this issue.

Virendra Kumar (JD-S) said though the production of cardamom and pepper is much lower compared to last year but still the prices are much lower at the futures prices were manipulated by a group to bring them down. He urged upon the Government to fix a benchmark price for both cardamom and pepper.

BJP's Prof Rasa Singh Rawat raised the issue of the distribution of sub-standard wheat through the Public Distribution System by the Government and urged the Chair to direct the Centre to satisfy quality norms of the grain being sent for PDS.

Archana Nayak (BJD) urged the Chair to direct the Government to take up agri-insurance scheme for all agricultural products, instead of some selective ones, to prevent farmers' suicides.

Rewati Raman Singh (SP) raised the issue of Hindustan Cable Corporation-- the only PSU company in the country engaged in the production of optical fibre cables -- and said though the government made some big announcements regarding the revival of the closed and sick PSUs but so far nothing has been done in that direction.

CPI-M's Basudeb Acharia also associated himself with this issue and urged the Chair to direct the Communication Ministry to place all its purchase orders with the HCC.

Subodh Mohite (SS) raised the issue of farmers' suicide and said that the ''much-hyped'' Prime Minister's package has not helped in any way with the incidence of suicides doubling in the past months.

He said the Government should have written off the loans of the farmers and provide a five-year package for the children of those farmers who committed suicide.
