Govt clears 136 housing projects for urban poor
New Delhi, Dec 7 (UNI) The government has approved 68 projects worth Rs 4539.23 Crore for constructing 2.59 lakh houses for the urban poor.
These projects have a central share of Rs 2359.29 Crore and have been approved under the Basic Services for the Urban Poor'(BSUP), a sub-mission of the Jawaharlal Nehru Urban Renewal Mission(JNURM), Minister of State for Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation Ms Selja told the Rajya Sabha in a written reply.
She said, 76 projects had been approved at a total cost of Rs 831.49 crore to build 62000 houses under the Integrated Housing and Slum Development Programme.
The Minister said that the housing shortage at the end of the 9th Plan and the beginning of the 10th Plan was 8.89 million.
The JNURM has been launched to solve, in a mission mode, the housing and infrastructure probelems of 63 select cities.
