Fatima, Sangam enter Surendra Anand Memorial tourney's pre-quarters

Pune, Dec 6 (UNI) Fatima Sports Club and Sangam today moved into the pre-quarterfinals of the second edition of the late Surendra Anand Memorial State Level Invitation Football Tournament, organised by the Kirkeeans Sports Club under the aegis of the Pune District Football Association at Khadki ground of the Ammunition Factory ground here today.

In the second round, Fatima XI scraped past Parshuramians XI 5-4 via tie breaker, while Sangam washed Deccan XI 4-2 via tie breker only.

Fatima XI and Parshuramians were locked 1-1 at full time to force a tie-breaker. Parshuraminas started right from the whistle, when Krish Mulay hit a goal in the very third minute of the match with a solo effort to put his team in the lead.

Parshuramians kept control through the first half and the first quarter of the second half. However, Fatima freed themselves from the pressure and attacked the Parshuramians twice in the 40th minute.

An equaliser came in the 45th minute.

In the second half, their ace player Sanu Jacob hit the goal on a solo attempt and forced the match into an extra time.

With the scores being equal in the extra time, the tie-breaker was forced to end the deadlock in which Michael Vaz, Vivien D'souza, Vision Arnold and Jay Dyanprakash scored for Fatima XI, while Abhishek Wakankar, Krish Mulay and Umesh Kamble scored for Parshuramians.

Goalkeeper Rosaria Piupsaundria did exceedingly well, blocking the goals by Ajay Chorge and Mahesh Dedhne, thereby winning the man of the match award.

In the second match, Sangam beat Deccan XI 4-2 via tie-breaker.

In the full time, 0-0 was the score. As the scores were equal in the full time, the tie-breaker was forced to end the deadlock in which Raju Nikam, Anup Sawant, Viky Kadam and Sunil Ghole scored for Sangam, while Sharad Pawar and Sujit Bokare scored for Deccan XI.

Goalkeeper Vijayraj Chinappa blocked the goals by Prashant Pardeshi and Mahesh P, thus winning the man of the match award.
