Ex-Congress MLA gets anticipatory bail in cheating case
Chennai, Dec 7 (UNI) Madras High Court today granted anticipatory bail to former Congress MLA S S R Ramadass, who apprehended arrest in connection with a cheating case.
Mr Justice M Thanickachallam granted bail on condition that Dr Ramadass deposit Rs 75 lakh in the Indian Bank, High Court Branch.
He should also execute a bond for Rs 10,000 with two sureties each for a like sum to the satisfaction of Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate, Egmore. He should appear before the Inspector of Police, Cental Crime Branch, Egmore as and when required.
The charge against Dr Ramadass was that he along with Suryamurthy and Subash Chandra Bose, office-bearers of the Tamil Nadu Government Officers Union (TNGOU), received money from union members and public numbering 977 and bought 70 acre land near Kundrathur. But they did not get layout approval to hand over plots nor did they return the money.
Abudu Kumar, counsel for Dr Ramadass said the complaint dated July 16 by one Radhakrishnan was made to spoil Dr Ramadass's name.
Though he could not get approval for the layout and could not hand over plots, he had returned the amount collected. He had returned Rs 5.5 crore and was ready to deposit the remaining Rs 1.5 crore.
