EC dismisses recount appeals
Mysore, Dec 7 (UNI) Karnataka Chief Electoral Officer Ramaseshan today dismissed the pleas of some JD(S) leaders to order a recount of the Chamundeswari Assembly byelection, which saw Congress nominee Siddaramaiah defeating the JD(S) candidate by a narrow margin.
Talking to the media here, he said there was no question of recounting of votes after the result was officially announced.
Expressing happiness over the entire process of the Chamundeswari Assembly byelection ending in a peaceful manner, Mr Ramaseshan thanked the officials and the police for the peaceful conduct of the bypoll.
Referring to the complaints filed by the leaders of both the Congress and the JD(S), he said the Central Election Commission would look into it and decide. The State Election Commission had nothing to do with it.
The entire election process was ably supervised by Election Observer J Raymond Peter, Additional Observer Anand Singh, Expenses Observer Pramod Kumar, besides Deputy Commissioner and District Election Officer S Selvakumar. As many as seven paramilitary forces were deployed for the bypoll, besides the local police force.
