DONER launched skill development programme in NE

Aizawl, Dec 7 (UNI) Union Ministry of the Department of North Eastern Region (DONER) has made a long-term arrangement with a number of vocational centres of excellence for skill upgradation and training in order to increase employment opportunities in the North East (NE) region.

Official sources here today said IIM Kolkata, IIT Guwahati, Central Institute of Plastic Engineering Technology (Chennai), National Institute of Fashion Technology (Kolkata), the Energy and Research Institute (New Delhi) and Toy Making Institute (Kolkata) have already agreed to impart training to the NE youths.

''DONER has asked the state governments of the respective regions to select the candidates for short-term vocational training, which would help them to manage unemployment menace in the states'', officials said.

Stating that major programme to enable small entrepreneurs and self-help groups to attain self-reliance has already been launched through North Eastern Development Finance Corporation (NEDFI) and the North Eastern Regional Agricultural Marketing Corporation (NERAMAC), the officials said, Mizoram, Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland have successfully proceeded with the programme and achievments of the states are being appreciated by the DONER.
