'DAY AT SEA' off Porbandar coast

Porbandar, Dec 7 (UNI) Western Naval Command performed a series of impressive naval exercises off Porbandar Coast today as part of the Navy Week celebrations.

''A day at Sea'' was organised under the aegis of the Naval Officer-in-Charge (NOIC) Gujarat Commodore Utpal Vora to make people aware about the Indian Navy and its maritime prowess.

The main aim behind the celebrations was to provide the citizens a glimpse of what naval life is all about.

Mediapersons from Ahmedabad and Rajkot too witnessed the impressive naval exercises off Porbandar. INS ''Trishul'' carried the guests and mediapersons at high sea to watch the spell-binding naval exercies such as Close Range Anti-Aircraft (CRAA) gun firing.

Lowering boat from the ship for rescue purpose was also displayed.

''Nashak'', a Missile Frigate also carried out gun firing.

''Chetak'' Helicoptar also carried out search and rescue operations.

Commodore Vora and Gujarat Energy Minister Saurabh Patel were on board INS Trishul.

Mr Patel also fired a Light Machine Gun (LMG).

The ships which participated in the event include Indian Naval Ships (INS) Trishul, Vindhyagiri and Nashak.
