Cruise shipping policy to be finalised soon

New Delhi, Dec 7 (UNI) The High-powered Steering Group on cruise shipping will forward the policy on cruise shipping to various other ministries for inter-ministerial consultations for giving a final shape to it.

The Steering Group, which met here last evening under the chairmanship of Shipping, Road Transport and Highways Minister T R Baalu and co-Chairperson Tourism Minister Ambika Soni, discussed at length the draft Cruise Shipping Policy formulated on the basis of recommendations given by the fiYve working groups.

The groups were constituted to formulate the various aspects of the policy relating to taxation, immigration, connectivity, identification of ports to be developed for cruise shipping and customs.

It was decided that the policy be forwarded to other ministries for inter-ministerial consultations after incorporating inputs on river cruising from the Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI) and on environmental concerns from the Ministry of Environment and Forests.

Mr Baalu instructed the officials to work expeditiously on the draft policy to ensure its implementation at the earliest.

The meeting was attended by officials of the ministries of Shipping, Road Transport and Highways, Tourism and Finance.
