CPI warns Gov against giving political space to BJP
New Delhi, Dec 8 (UNI) Charging the Government with failure on several fronts mainly on containing inflation, price rise, pushing anti-people financial sector reforms, anti-farmer and anti labour, SEZs, the CPI today warned the UPA against making political space for BJP in the process.
''We are concerned over the UPA govvernment's failure not only to contain sky rocketing prices of essential commodities, but also the Prime Minister and the Finance Minsiter's insistence on carrying forward economic reforms despite oppostion from the Left and the people as a whole,'' CPI leader in the Lok Sabha Gurudas Dasgupta said today.
At a press conference, the veteran parliamentarain said the government was ''opening doors for the BJP''(BJP ke liye darwaza khol rahi hai) by ignoring the Left demands for tabling the pending legislation on the Tribal Rights and other pro-people Bills in Parliament.
''We dont want Mr Manmohan Singh to sit as leader of the Oppostion in the next Lok Sabha,'' he said.
Mr Dasgupta also criticised finance Minsiter P Chidambaram for advocating the so called economic growth and insistence on further opening up of the financial sector.
While reiterating his party's unchanged position on the pension and banking reforms, he made it clear that the CPI also opposed the spread of SEZs and provision of tax benifits to the ''real estate agents.'' He came down heavily on the Government's move to introduce two Bills on the Tribal Rights saying it was aimed at defeating the very purpose of the legislation.
On Parliament sittings, he criticised the Government for reducing the number of sittings and observed that ''During 2006, 100 sittings have been reduced to 82. There should at least be 100 sittings,'' he said.
