Congress wins Daryapur assembly seat
Mumbai, Dec 7: Congress' Prakash Bharsakale today won the Daryapur Assembly seat in Maharashtra, defeating his nearest Shiv Sena rival Balasaheb Hinganikar by a margin of nearly 4,000 votes.
Mr Bharsakale polled 45,908 votes while Mr Hinganikar managed to secure 41,042 votes, officials said.
Mr Bharsakale has been winning this seat on a Shiv Sena ticket since 1990. He had recently resigned from the House and joined the Congress. A staunch supporter of Revenue Minister Narayan Rane, he fought and won the by-election as a Congress candidate this time.
