Cement plants not priority industries:CM

Mandi, Dec 7 (UNI) Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh today said cement plants were not on its priority of industries that are being allowed to set up their units in the state.

''Only environment friendly industries would be allowed to set up their units in the state,'' he said, while presiding over the two-day All India Shikhar Lekhak Seminar here.

Mr Singh was allying fears of prominent writers that allowing setting up of cement factories in the state might cause environmental degradation and leave ugly scars on the enchanting green valleys of the state.

He also dwelt at length on the development and progress by the state during the last 50 years and said that the state had emerged as a role model for other states of the country.
