Buses damaged following desecration of Periyar statue in TN

Srirangam, Tamil Nadu Dec 7 (UNI) Unidentified miscreants damaged two private buses, following the desecration of Periyar statue by the activists of Hindu Makkal Katchi (HMK), here today.

The sources said, a group of people pelted stones at two privately-owned buses damaging the front windshields at Ammamandapam bathing ghats road and Srirangam bus terminus respectively. However, no one was injured in the incident. The drivers of the buses managed to flee. No complaint was lodged with the police, so far in this connection.

In another incident, a group of Dravidar Kazhagam (DK) party workers staged a roadroko at the busy Srirangam bus terminus in protest against the incident. However, police dispersed the agitatiors and restored vehicular traffic.

A life-size statue of DK party founder and rationalist leader Periyar E V Ramasamy was damaged by HMK cardres.
