Broadband Internet to be at doorstep in villages
New Delhi, Dec 7 (UNI) The Government would support the establishment of 100,000 broadband, internet enabled Common Servive Centres(CSCs) in rural areas of the country, the Rajya Sabha was informed today.
These centres would provide the government and private service at the doorsteps of people, Minister of State for Communication and Information Technology Dr Shakeel Ahmad told the House in a written reply.
He said there would be one CSC per six villages in a state.
The scheme has been approved at a total cost of Rs 5742 Crore, out of which the Centre's share would be Rs 857 Crore. The balanace resources would be mobilised from the private sector, the Minister said.
The scheme would be implemented through Public-Private Partnership, he said.
