Guwahati, Dec 07 (UNI) Bharati Airtel announced the launch of its mobile services in Cherrapunjee in the picturesque state of Meghalaya today, sources here said.

Cherrapunjee is an important destination for tourists and travellers and the launch of Airtel mobile services will further boost tourism in the state.

Currently Airtel has a significant presence across all North Eastern states and important tourist destinations like Kaziranga Wildlife National Park, the oil towns Digboi, Margherita and Duliajan besides the heart of Asom's silk industry, Sualkuchi.

After achieving a customer base of over six lakhs in the North East within a period of 20 months of launching its services in Asom, Airtel now connects all important towns in Asom and the North East on its state-of-art ER network. Airtel, one of India's leading private sector providers of telecommunications services, is also expanding its network to connect highways and key rails routes as well as the smaller towns along the highways across the region, the sources said.
