Adjournment motion on farmers' suicides accepted
Nagpur, Dec 7 (UNI) Maharashtra Legislative Assembly Speaker Babasaheb Kupekar today accepted an opposition-sponsored adjournment motion on the large number of suicides by farmers in Vidarbha region of the state and scheduled the discussion for later this afternoon.
Mr Kupekar said he was accepting the notice from the opposition as an exceptional case since the issue was serious, although suicides by farmers were not a subject to be discussed through an adjournment motion. The discussion on the motion would begin at 1600 hur today, he said.
There had been 17 suicides by farmers in Vidarbha in the first 6 days of December, he also said.
