West Bengal a gateway for IT development: Kalam

Kolkata, Dec 06: West Bengal will be the gateway for the SouthEast Asian nations in the ICT sector in the near future, A P J AbdulKalam said here today.

When the Information Communication Technology (ICT) sectorstarted in the country neither was West Bengal a frontrunner nor the NEstates were in the scheme of things. But Singapore and Malaysia andother S E Asian countries have gone a long way in this sector," he said.

"West Bengal though a late starter can now work as a gateway forimporting knowledge community from the South East Asian countries andprove to be a catalyst for developing the country," he said.

The state has a large talent pool which can be utilised in developing the IT sector.
