Swamy asks Tatas to renegotiate deal with Singur tillers
New Delhi, Dec 6 (UNI) Demanding scrapping of farm land acquisition for Tatas in Singur by the West Bengal Government, Janata Party President Subramanaian Swamy today said the entire deal deserved to be scrapped and renegotiated with full transparency.
In a statement, Dr Swamy alleged that his investigations showed that the Singur farm land was given to the tillers in Barqa movement led by Left parties and the pattas were given to CPI-M office bearers of the area. The farmers were therefore held as hostages by the party and had to support the party in order to keep their lands.
He said this was the reason the farmers was now claiming before the media that they were happy with the sale.
He said Trinamool Congress leader Mamata Banerjee was doing a patriotic duty by opposing the deal. "I urge Mr Ratan Tata to bypass the CPI-M benamis and directly approach the real tillers for a renegotiated deal", Dr Swamy said.
