Russian, British investigators question Dmitri on Litvinenko's death

Moscow, Dec 6 (UNI) Investigators from the Russian Prosecutor General's Office, together with Scotland Yard officers, today questioned businessman Dmitri Kovtun as a witness in the criminal case opened following the death of former KGB officer Alexander Litvinenko.

''Yesterday and today investigators from the Prosecutor General's Office and Scotland Yard officers recorded the testimonies of Mr Kovtun. My client, Andrei Lugovoi, has not been interrogated yet,'' lawyer Andrei Romashov told Interfax news agency today.

Meanwhile, a source told RIA Novosti news agency that investigators might not be able to question Andrei, a key Russian witness in the Litvinenko case, today, as he was undergoing a medical examination.

Andrei, a businessman and former FSB officer, earlier said he was willing to meet with Scotland Yard detectives.

''An interview has been scheduled for today, but Andrei is still undergoing medical checks, and he has not been questioned so far,'' the source said, adding that the questioning could be postponed until tomorrow.

Traces of radiation have been detected in the hotel rooms in London where Andrei stayed in October and November, and on the airliners in which he flew to the UK, leading Russian business daily Kommersant said today.
