Raza academy to submit memorandum to Governor

Mumbai, Dec 6 (UNI) Observing the 14th anniversary of the demolition of the Babri Masjid today, members of the Raza academy will submit a memorandum to Maharashtra Governor S M Krishna, demanding reconstruction of the demolished portions of the mosque and immediate implementation of the Srikrishna Commission report.

The demolition of the masjid had triggered large-scale communal riots in Mumbai in 1992-93 and the government had subsequently set up the Justice Srikrishna Commission to probe into the riots. The commission in its report had indicted several top officals and politicians for their complicity in these riots. However, till date the report has not been implemented.

General Secretary of Raza Academy Maulana Mohammed Syed Noori told UNI that in their memorandum they will also demand that the investigation into the recent Malegoan blasts be handed over to the CBI.

He alleged that the local police and state agencies investigating the Malegoan blasts are biased towards the minority community due to which they are singled out for victimisation and in the bargain the real culprits behind the blasts will never be found.

Later in the day, Maulana Manzoor Ali Khan from the Minar-e- Masjid will lead 14 Ulemas, in making a simultaneous 'Azan call' to protest against the demolition of the Babri Masjid in Ayodhya in Uttar Pradesh. The 14 Ulemas will make the 'Azan call' from Mohammed Ali Road, Mandvi Post office, Bhendi Bazaar and Khatri Masjid, sources said.
