Radar network soon to predict monsoons: Scientist
Tirupati, Dec 6 (UNI) The Department of Science and Technology (DST) of the Central Government has identified nine locations for establishing ST Radar Network for studying wind patterns on different temporal and spatial scales for more accurate prediction of monsoons.
Addressing a press conference, National Atmospheric Research Laboratory (NARL) Director D Narayana Rao said the DST had identified Thirvananthapuram, Waltair, Port Blair, Pune, Nagpur, Guwahati, Jaipur, Delhi and Kolkata to establish the ST Radar network.
India still remained a predominantly agricultural country and vast tracts of land depended on bountiful monsoons, he said.
The radars would enable scientists to carry out studies and forecast monsoons with the NARL playing a vital role in establishing the network, he added.
