Oppn legislators stage dharna over farmers' suicides

Nagpur, Dec 6: Opposition Legislators staged a 'dharna' on the steps of the Council Hall just before the proceedings of the ongoing Maharashtra Assembly began, to protest the government's apathy towards the large number of suicides by farmers in the Vidarbha region of Maharashtra here today.

Senior MLA Shalinitai Patil also joined the opposition legislators in the dharna who were raising slogans against the government.

The opposition in the Legislative Assembly would sit in the House with black bands on their mouths and see if a discussion on the adjournment motion on the farmers' suicide issue, for which they had given notice, was allowed, Shiv Sena MLA Gajanan Kirtikar told UNI.

The opposition had boycotted the proceedings in the Legislative Assembly yesterday when their demand for a discussion on the farmers' suicides vide an adjournment motion was not conceded.
