Navy can handle threat to oil instatllations: Raju

Porbandar, Dec 6 (UNI) The Indian Navy is modernising continuously and is capable of safeguarding the country's oil installations along the coastline, said Union Minister of State for Defence M M Pallam Raju here today.

Briefing mediapersons on board the INS Trishul, Mr Raju said the Coast Guard is being strengthened. With 136 warships, 27 of them well-equipped, and many submarines the armed forces are much stronger to deal with any eventuality. The Navy is also planning to purchase two naval aircraft.

On the War Room leak incident, the Minister said it was unfortunate and the CBI is probing. ''I do not want to comment on it,'' he added.

On terrorism, Mr Raju said it was prevalent all over the world but India was the worst affected. He said he has strongly urged his Pakistani counterpart to dismantle the terror infrastructure across the border of J&K.

''Infiltration is a big problem for our country and we are taking steps in this regard to minimise such incidents,'' he added.
