Myanmar pro-democracy group to oppose Gen Shwe Man's India visit

New Delhi, Dec 6 (UNI) A Myanmarese pro-democracy group based in the country has expressed displeasure over India extending an invitation to General Than Shwe Man for a visit here.

''It is shameful, the manner in which the Indian government is looking at its own interest instead of supporting the movement for democracy in Myanmar,'' Myanmarese pro-democracy activist Myint Aye said in a statement.

Gen Shwe Man would come to New Delhi close on the heels of Indian Navy Chief's visiting that country, during which India offered to sell military hardware.

Gen Shwe Man was expected to ink an agreement in this regard with India during his visit.

We would hold demonstrations against Gen Shwe Man's proposed visit here, the statement added.
