JMM withdraws Jharkhand bandh on HC direction
Ranchi, Dec 6 (UNI) In the wake of today's direction by Jharkhand High Court terming tomorrow's Jharkhand Mukti Morcha-sponsored bandh as ''unconstitutional and illegal'', the party withdrew its proposed 24-hour statewide bandh in protest against the conviction of party supremo Sibu Soren.
The court also directed all political parties to restrain from calling bandh.
The JMM had called a statewide bandh tomorrow to protest the conviction of JMM supremo Sibu Soren in the Shashinath Jha murder case.
Mr Supriyo Bhattacharaya, central secretary of the party, told UNI that the bandh had been called off respecting the High Court direction.
Yesterday, Mr Soren along with four others was sentenced to life imprisonment by a Delhi Court for murdering his former secretay.
Meanwhile, JMM party workers took out a torchlight procession in the state capital.
The Congress had extended its moral support to the proposed bandh.
