Jharkhand bandh call by JMM unconstitutional and illegal:Court
Ranchi, Dec 6 (UNI) Jharkhand High Court today described as illegal and unconstitutional tomorrow's Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) -sponsored statewide bandh in protest against the conviction of party supremo Sibu Soren.
The court directed all the political parties to restrain from calling bandh.
A Division Bench comprising Chief Justice Muthuswamy Karpagyavinaygam and Justice D G R Patnaik passed the order while hearing a writ petition, filed by Krishna Kumar.
Referring to a decision of the Apex court, the High Court said bandhs were declared unconstitutional and illegal in 1998 by the Apex court.
Appearing on behalf of the petitioner, Retu Kumar and Shailesh Kumar Singh pleaded before the court that life of people was disturbed because of these agitational programmes.
Earlier, the court directed Chief Secretary and Director General of Police of the state to ensure protection of life and property of people in Jharkhand.
