India Post arrange lucky draw for Andaman villagers

Port Blair, Dec 06: The Andaman unit of India Post has arranged a'lucky draw' scheme to encourage more and more villagers of SouthAndaman for opening Savings Bank accounts and a few other policies ofPostal department.

"This facility is being extended from the Postal Stall at BharatNirman Dweep Vikas Utsav (Public Information Campaign, PIC) beingorganized at Wimberlygunj, a remote South Andaman Village for theislanders," Madhumita Das, the Director of Andaman's Postal Departmenttold UNI today.

The Postal Director added that any villager opening an accountfrom the PIC stall of Postal Department will be eligible for thelucky-draw and winners would be given prizes on the last day of theprogramme.

"The idea is to attract more and more villagers and making themaware of various saving schemes of Postal Department for the benefit ofall," Mrs Das added.

Besides lucky-draw the Postal Unit has arranged many other eventsto spread Postal awareness among the villagers of far flung islands.

Villagers in huge number are visiting the postal stall to knowmote about the lucky draw scheme and in last three days more than 100accounts have opened from the PIC stall of Postal Department.

"More than 100 accounts in just three days is a quite encouraging for us," Das said.

This is the first time when such campaign and schemes are arranged for the remote villagers of South Andaman.

"Our main objective of organising Bharat Nirman Dweep Vikas Utsav,Public Information Campaign is to disseminate the information of theCentre's various welfare schemes and huge response of Postal stallshows that we are nearing PIB's goal," said O.N.Jaiswal the officerincharge of Press Information Bureau's Andaman unit.

Postal Department is the second largest department of Andaman andNicobar Islands with its offices spread in almost all the inhabitedislands of the remote archipelago.
