HC prohibits construction near water bodies

Lucknow, Dec 6 (UNI) The Lucknow Bench of Allahabad High Court today directed the Uttar Pradesh chief secretary to ensure no construction takes place near ponds, lakes and other water preservation sites.

Justice Devi Prasad Singh passed the order on a writ petition.

The HC also directed the state DGP and SPs of all the districts in this regard.

The court observed ''We need to protect water bodies for environmental balance.'' Meanwhile, the Revenue Board secretary presented himself before the HC with an affidavit regarding ponds and lakes in the 25 districts.
