Games-Weightlifting China's Mu snatches world record

OHA, Dec 6 (Reuters) Mu Shuangshuang lifted a world record 139kg in the snatch on the way to grabbing China's 10th weightlifting gold of the 15th Asian Games today.

Mu emerged with the super-heavyweight title after a classic duel with South Korea's Olympic silver medallist Jang Mi-ran, lifting 178kg in the clean and jerk for a combined 317kg.

Mu's 139kg lift in the snatch bettered Jang's world record in the over 75kg class by 1kg.

Jang's best of 135kg in the snatch left her needing something special in the clean and jerk to win gold, and for the briefest of moments she almost had it.

But with the barbell bending under 182kg of weight, the powerhouse Korean failed to force it above her head and exited the stage sobbing.

Jang had to settle for a silver to match the one she won in Pusan four years ago after a combined 313kg, while Thailand's Moontar Annipa clinched bronze with 265kg.
