First All India Defence Accounts meet begins

Chandigarh, Dec 6 (UNI) Controller General of Defence Accounts Jnan Prakash today inaugurated the three-day 1st All India Defence Accounts Department Athletic Meet-2006 here.

In his inaugural address, Mr Prakash appealed to the participants to take part in the events with the best spirit of sportsmanship and also to enjoy their stay in this city beautiful.

The ceremony began with the release of pigeon and balloons, Ghatka and 2 Sikh Regiment band played a tune in honour of Chief guest.

The events -- 100 meter, 400 meter and high jump -- were divided into two categories, below 45 years men and women and above 45 years men and women.

The 32 contingents from all India Defence Accounts Department comprised 180 sportsmen and women of them R L Sharma and Ms Monika from PCDA, Western Command are national athletes.

Today's results: High Jump; upto 45 years: K Ramakrishna, PCDA (P) Allahabad stood first, Peter Antony of CFA (Fy) Chennai was 2nd and Gulab Singh of PCDA Western Command Chandigarh stood 3rd.

High Jump; above 45 years: RL SHARMA, PCDA (Western Command) Chandigarh, LR Tyagi, PCDA (R&D) New Delhi and DN Joshi, PCDA (AF) Dehradun were first, second and third respectively.

Sham Dev, Senior Deputy CGDA gave away the prizes to winners.
