City Club, Ultimate Blues storm into pre-quarters of Anand Memorial

Pune, Dec 5 (UNI) City Club and Ultimate Blues today moved into the pre-quarter finals of the second edition of late Surendra Anand Memorial State Level Invitation Football Tournament at the Ammunition Factory ground here, winning the matches in contrasting style.

A goal in the 46th minute by Robert Anthony from top of the circle gave City Club solitary goal win over Knights Eleven.

Ultimate Blues had resolved their dispute with Rahul Soccer Club via the tie-breaker, triumphing by a 5-4 margin in the shoot-out.

Earlier, Mischief Makers outclassed City Police by 4-1 in the first match of the day. Anthony Almedia, Baptists Lobo Faiyaz Sayyed and Clint D'Souza found the target from the spot kick in the tie-breaker, as against the City Police who had to remain content with just one goal due to inspired display by goalkeeper Atish Ganguli.

Ultimate Blues, however, earned their spurs into the pre-quarter finals by a goal difference 5-4 in the tie-breaker over Rahul Soccer Club. In the closely fought match, both the teams were locked in a unresolved position at the end of full regulation time of play.

In the tie-breaker, Rodney Lazarus, Milroy Francis, Kenneth Mascarnehas, Ashish Tupe and Denzil Fernandes found the target, while Vijay Pillay, Nishant Malwankar, Ashish Sayyed and Prashant Sasane, put it across for the Rahul Club.
