Checking acts of desecration duty of state govt: Arjun

Lucknow, Dec 6 (UNI) Even as yet another statue of Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar was desecrated in Allahabad on the eve of his death anniversay, Union HRD Minister Arujn Singh today said it was the duty the state government to avert such incidents, which led to violence.

Talking to reporters here after addressing a gathering at Ambedkar Sabhagar to mark the death anniversary, he refused to comment about 'the politics behind the Kanpur incident', which later took a violent turn there as well as in Maharashtra.

Earlier in Amethi, Congress president and Rae Bareli MP Sonia Gandhi had also slammed the administration for failing to curb violence. She was interacting with the media in her son Rahul's parliamentary constituency two days ago.

On reservation in institutions of higher education, the minister said the matter had already been raised in Parliament and was under consideration with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
