Centre announced special package for AIR, DD in NE

Aizawl, Dec 6 (UNI) Centre has decided to offer a special NE package for All India Radio (AIR) and Doordarshan (DD) in eleventh five year plan.

Information and public relation department officials here today said that as per the announcement, ministry of information and broadcasting will give Rs 24.80 crore for AIR and Rs 380.55 crore for DD in first phase under the package.

Prasar Bharati has proposed to start four more news bulletins in regional languages for NE states of 10 minutes duration each.

Referring to the ministry's decision sources said priority is being accorded for expansion of TV coverage in border areas and NE in a bid to counter the impact of the Bangladeshi and Pakistani channels.

The terrestrial coverage in the border areas have been strengthened with satellite and DTH coverage.
