BJP turning to core Hindutva agenda- CPI (M)

New Delhi, Dec 6 (UNI) Accusing the BJP of going back to its core "Hindutva agenda" ahead of the coming Assembly polls, the CPI(M) today alleged that that the main opposition party was not allowing Parliament to discuss issues of national importance.

"The way the BJP raised the slogans like' Mandir vahin banayenge' and displayed computerised posters, forcing adjournments in both houses of Parliament today and rather taking credit for the demolition on December 6,1992, simply shows that it is up to recreate communal frenzy with an eye on UP and other Assembly polls," CPI(M) leader Sitaram Yechury said.

At a press conference, Mr Yechury, flanked by party floor leaders- Basudeb Acharia and Mohammad Salim- said" They can not bring posters in the Parliament ,it is highly condemnable. The BJP did not allow discussion on the recent Bhagalpur rail accident and the Gujarat government's 'apathy, indifference and negligence' towards the post- Godhra riot victims." Referring to the BJP's boycott of the Business Advisory Committee of the Lok Sabha on December 4 and ditching it today, CPI(M) Floor leader in the Lok Sabha Basudeb Acharia and deputy leader Mohammad Salim said Mr Santosh Gangwar who" turned up", did not ask for raising the issue of BJP chief Rajnath Singh's arrest on his way to Singur.

To the BJP's allegation against Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee that the latter was biased towards the saffron party, the Left leaders said instead the largest number of Adjournment Motions had been admitted during the UPA regime during its two-and-a half years rule.

Quoting the Father of the nation- Mahatma Gandhi- they sought to bring home the point that the BJP should refrain from" wasting" the time of Parliament.

" During the last 12 days in the Rajya Sabha, the BJP has allowed discussion only one topic- internal security," said Mr Yechury who is a Rajya Sabha MP.

"Besides maximum number of issues have been allowed," they said.

On the delay in delivery of justice on the Babri Masjid demolition even after 14 years, they recollected Home Minister Shiv Raj Patil's assurance on the floor of the House last year. They demanded that the government must ensure that the Liberhan Commission completed its report and no more extension was given to the probe.

" Besides the CBI should initate its work as per the Rae Bareli court directive that prosecution proceedings should also be started against BJP leader L K Advani in the Demolition case," they said.

Replying to a specific query on the Supreme Court's comment that there was no requirement of prior sanction to prosecute public servants including Chief Ministers and Ministers in corruption cases, the CPI(M) leaders reiterated that this is why they have always stood for bringing the 30-year-old Lok Pal bill in Parliament.

" We will have to examine the SC's suggestion from all aspects but we have no objection if it is for fixing accountability and responsibility of the public men," they added.
