Apex Court ruling to create probity in public life:Cong
New Delhi, Dec 6 (UNI) The Congress today hailed the Supreme Court ruling that there was no requirement of prior sanction for prosecution of public servants in corruption cases.
"It is a good thing as long as it creates probity in public life," Congress Spokesperson Jayanti Natrajan said.
"The Congress is for integrity and probity in public life," Ms Natrajan said briefing mediapersons here.
She said the issue related to interpretation of the People's Representation Act, adding "we will go by that interpretation." Asked about the Supreme Court ruling on IMDT Act, Ms Natrajan said she had read news reports to this effect. The Government would take due note of the judgement and abide by it.
"Whatever has been said by the Supreme Court is the law of the and we will abide by it," the Congress Spokesperson said.
Replying to a question, Ms Natrajan said MPs are directly elected by the people hence there can be no appointing authority in their case.
Asked how far the BJP was justified in saying that cricketer and convict Navjot Singh Sidhu would be a star campaigner for the party in the coming Punjab elections, she said it was the party's lookout. "We leave it to the people to decide." The party spokesperson also remembered the" multi-pronged legacy and the immense contribution" of late B R Ambedkar to the important realm of the Constitution, human rights, uplift of the downtrodden and the rights of women" on his death anniversary and paid homage to him.
