All police stations must have own building within two yrs : HC
Patna, Dec 6 (UNI) Patna High Court today directed the Bihar government to ensure that all police stations of the state must have own buildings equipped with requisite facilities within two years.
A division bench of the court comprising Justice Narain Rai and Justice Ajay Kumar Tripathi issued the directive to the state government during hearing of a public interest litigation petition filed in this connection.
The court also directed the state government to file a progress report before it and adjourned the matter till the first week of May, 2007.
During the day, as per the earlier order of the court, the state government had filed an affidavit seeking one and half year time for construction of buildings for all police stations.
The Bench granted two years time to the government with a warning that there should be no excuse if the government had failed to comply with the order within stipulated time period.
Earlier, the petitioner had alleged that most of the police stations were operating in rented private buildings and also devoid of basic facilities like lock-ups and tele-communication systems.
