New Delhi, Dec 6: The Government has initiated several measures to prevent smuggling of arms, ammunition and explosives from across the borders, the Rajya Sabha was informed today.
These include fencing of eastern and western borders, deployment of border guarding forces, strengthening of intelligence capacity along the borders, periodic sensitization of border guarding forces and the State governments particularly in the border States, and strengthening of coastal security, Minister of State for Home SriPrakash Jaiswal said in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha.
The Government has taken steps to enhance surveillance and physical security and scanning of baggage at the airports.
As per information available with the Union Home Ministry, about 724 Kgs. of RDX was seized by police and security forces in different parts of the country till October this year. In the year 2005, approximately 1021 Kgs. of RDX was seized.
