52nd SGFI National Football Championship starts in Andamans

Port Blair, Dec 6 (UNI) The 52nd SGFI National Football championship, 2006, kicked off at the Netaji Stadium here today with the inauguration by Mr Manoranjan Bhakta, MP from Andaman and Nicobar islands.

Chief Secretary Shumsher K Sheriff, Chairperson PBMC Sher Singh and Secretary (Edn) Arvind Ray also graced the occasion.

Declaring the tournament open, Mr Bhakta expressed happiness that the tournament is being conducted in the islands to encourage the upcoming football players as well as to improve the standard of the game in the remote islands.

'' There are a number of football players in the islands, who need to be provided with facilities for the improvement of their skill, '' Mr Bhakta said.
