128 flood-prone villages in K'taka to be shifted
Bangalore, Dec 6 (UNI) The Karnataka Government has decided to shift 128 villages in six districts, bearing the brunt of floods for years, at an estimated cost of Rs 224 crore before the next monsoon, Revenue Minister Jagadish Shettar said today.
Talking to reporters here, he said the Government had decided to shift 16 villages fully of the total 128 by providing infrastructure facilities like drinking water, roads, schools and electricity.
The Minister said over 1,500 acres of land had been identified for the rehabilitation of the families, numbering more than 20,000, in the districts of Belgaum, Bagalkot, Gulbarga, Bijapur, Raichur and Koppal.
