Shivalik Bird Sanctuary inaugurated at Chandimandir Cantt

Chandigarh, Dec 5 (UNI) Shivalik Bird Sanctuary has been developed in Chandimandir Cantonment, near here, to protect the natural beauty of the area and also the natural environment.

Ms Mohini Daljeet Singh, President Army Wives Welfare Association, Western Command inaugurated the Bird Sanctuary today at Chandimandir Cantonment, Western Command GOC-in-C Lt Gen Daljeet Singh alongwith other senior Army officers were present on the occasion.

Gen Daljeet Singh took round of the Bird Sanctuary complex with the Army officers and wives of the officers located at Chandimandir Cantonment.

Chandimandir Military Station is located at Shivalik foot hills with large number of trees, jungle patches and wild life. A large number of seasonal nallahs drain out the rain water from the area.

To ensure that Chandimandir military station becomes a model on protection of our environment, there was a need to develop a bird sanctuary within the military station.

The bird sanctuary will have an artificial lake to store the rain water which will also recharge the ground water and attract migratory birds to the military station.

In addition to enhancing the natural beauty of the military station.
