Main suspect in abduction of school children arrested in Meghalaya

Shillong, Dec 5 (UNI) The main accused in the abduction of two school students - Sanchit Goel and Harsha Goel- have been arrested in Meghalaya after evading for the past four months.

The main accused-- Sagar Chettri alias Kancha-- was arrested by the state police from Mawlasnai village in state's Ri-Bhoi district, yesterday, Shillong (City) Superintendent of Police M Kharkrang told UNI here today.

On August 2, this year, both Sanchit and Harsha, were abducted for ransom by a group of armed gang who have demanded Rs ten lakh for their safe-release while they were on their way to school.

''Kancha arrest would surely help us to get more clues on the whereabouts of the two children,'' Mr Kharkrang said, adding that his arrest was based on confessions made by his colleagues.

Last week, the Manipur police had also arrested -- Raju Biswas and Chandraprakash Sharma - from Imphal for their alleged involvement in the kidnapping of the two children.

The Manipur police had handed over both the accused to Meghalaya police.

So far, the police had arrested 12 people, including the driver of the car Rudal Shah alias Amar Behari who was driving the car in which the children were travelling.
