Underworld Don Chhota Rajan's brother granted anticipatory bail
Mumbai, Dec 4 (UNI) A local court today granted anticipatory bail to Deepak Sadashiv Nikhalje, younger brother of underworld don Chhota Rajan, wanted in connection with a case pertaining to violence triggered by the desecration of statue of Dr B R Ambedkar in Kanpur, registered agaist him at the Chembur Police station last Thursday.
Additional Sessions Judge M L Tahilyani after hearing both sides granted Anticipatory Bail to Nikhalje on a cash surety of Rs.5,000.
Nikhalje had approached the session court with his bail plea fearing arrest on a complaint registered against him under various sections of Indian Penal Code including the prevention of damages to public property act.
Prosecution said that he had led a mob on last Thursday in a ''rasto roko agitation'' under Chembur police station area and damaged the city and state transport buses resulting in losses of over Rs one lakh to the state exchequer.
However, the defence argued that he being a social worker and Republican Party of India member went to these areas alongwith some senior police officials to appeal to agitating workers to keep calm.
He is in the business of a cable operator in the area and was not involved in any cases earlier and has no direct involvement in these incidents.
