TN House condoles former Speaker's demise; adjourned for day

Chennai, Dec 4 (UNI) The Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly, which met here today for a brief winter session, was adjourned for the day after passing a condolence resolution on the demise of former Assembly Speaker K Kalimuthu.

Soon after the House met, Speaker R Aavudaiappan made obituary references on the passing away of six former members of the Assembly.

The House observed silence for two minutes as a mark of respect to the departed souls.

Later, the House unanimously passed the condolence resolution on the death of Mr Kalimuthu.

Recalling the literary skills and good qualities of the late leader, Mr Aavudaiappan said Mr Kalimuthu served as MLA for five terms and as an MP during 1989-1991.

He also discharged his duty as state Minister in an exemplary manner during 1977-1986, he said.

Expressing condolences to the bereaved family, the House observed silence for two minutes as a mark of respect to the late leader.
