School tragedy case shifted to Thanjavur Sessions Court

Kumbhakonam, Dec 4 (UNI) The Kumbakonam school fire tragedy case was transferred to Thanjavur Sessions Court by Kumbakonam Judicial Magistrate Christopher when it came up for hearing today.

The shocking tragedy occurred on July 16, 2004 in which 94 children in the age group five to nine died and 20 other children were seriously injured.

Twenty four persons including school founder Pulavar Palanisamy, Head Mistress of the school and educational department officials, Tahasildars and retired Municipal Commissioner have been charged.

The accused who appeared today are on bail.
