Meghalaya govt announces 3 per cent job to physically handicapped

Shillong, Dec 4 (UNI) The Meghalaya government has announced three per cent job reservation for the disabled persons in various government departments in the state.

This was announced by state Minister in-charge Social Welfare Martle N Mukhim while speaking at the function on World Disable Day celebration at Soso Tham auditorium here today.

Mr Mukhim said financial assistance in the form of grant-in-aids would also be provided to non-governmental-organisations working for the welfare of disabled.

He said there is an urgent need to develop services for the disabled in rural areas especially by building up linkages through convergences approach.

In this regard, he said the state government had also set up the office of the Commissioner for Disabilities at Shillong for the purpose of looking into the grievances of the disabled persons and also to monitor the implementation of the schemes for the welfare of disabled and implementation of PWD Act.
