New Delhi, Dec 3 (UNI) In a run up to the elections to the Delhi Gurdwara Management Committee(DGMC) which has seen vitriolic trading of charges among opposite camps, former Head of Akal Takht Ranjit Singh today asked the Chairman of Committee Harvinder Singh Sarna to come to a public platform to debate the mismanagement of the capital's Gurdwaras.

Alleging that there was widespread and deep rooted corruption in the management of the Gurdwaras, which have offerings running into several crores of rupees, Mr Ranjit Singh said the present Committee would get a chance to come clean by entering into such a debate.

Earlier, Mr Sarna had made charges of corruption against Mr Ranjit Singh, which were denied by him.

To the dismay of the common Sikhs, the elections to the Delhi Gurdwaras, some of which are historical, have been a witness to much mud slinging and washing of dirty linen in public.

Apart from huge offerings, the Committee manages many educational institutions, including schools and colleges.

Mr Ranjit Singh said many of the promises made by the present Committee, when it assumed office, had remained unfulfilled.

These included visible improvement in the functioning of educational institutions and implementing programmes to improve the lot of the ordinary man in the community.

The Takht in the Golden Temple is the highest temporal power of the Sikhs.

Mr Ranjit Singh alleged bungling relating to some lands owned by the Committee, including the one in Gujaranwala town near Model Town.

The leader said he will support Shrimoni Akali Dal (Panthic), headed by Mr Manjit Singh, in the coming DSGMC elections.
