Kolkata, Dec 3 (UNI) Trinamool Congresss supremo Mamata Banerjee today threatened to go for an indefinite hunger strike if the alleged attrocity on her party supporters was not stopped by next 24 hours.

Addressing a news conference at her south Kolkata residence, Ms Banerjee expressed anxiety over the alleged torture of police and the CPI(M) workers on the "innocent people" at Singur. She said it was was an "unfortunate incident that even women were not spared from the batons of police personnel".

"Why the highways are barricaded by the police? Has the government declared emergency in the state? If yes, then why are there no notifications from the Home Minister,'' Ms Banerjee said questioning the reason behind the highway blockades.

Pointing about social activist Medha Patkar, who was here in the city to fight for the cause of the farmers at Singur, she asked, ''Why Medha (Patkar) should wear a burqua?'' "Is it a freedom fight or ESMA?'' she questioned the wisdoms of the government.

"Police had behaved inhumanely. They simply tortured us mentally and physically,'' Ms Banerjee observed.

" If Singur has 144 Cr pc then why can't we go to Dankuni, Chandannagore or Phinchura. Then why the CPM workers are roaming there'' she asked.

She also questioned about police detention on 18 women including some minor girls in Singur. '' If we really committed any crime then why we were not produced before the court.'' Refusing the Z category security provided to her, she said ''I don't want any security. What is the use of providing security when my security guards were manhandled. I have lost faith upon the administration.'' Recalling the trauma of September 25 "police attack", Ms Banerjee said, ''I was beaten by the police while I was on a dharna.'' The Home Minister had assured to take action against the policemen if the strike was over, but no action had been taken so far, she claimed.

''I will appeal a parliamentary team to visit and see the pathetic condition of farmers at Singur.'' she said. ''Even I failed to understand why the Centre is tightlipped on the whole situation.'' She said "It is not the matter of alliance it is matter of those hundreds of acres of fertile lands in Singur,'' she urged the Centre to take appropriate action upon this.

Talking on Lok Shabha speaker Somnath Chattterjee's visit to the state Assembly yesterday, Ms Banerjee said she would requset him to visit Singur once.

Later on she toned down her voice and appealed the people irrespective of caste, creed and religion, to raise their voice aginst the government's acquisition of farm lands in the name of industrialisation. She said that if the government did not stop the "atrocities" on poor farmers and scrap the MoU signed with the Tata Motor for small car project then her party would intensify its stir.
