Infosys to get land in Bengal by March 2007: WB Govt

Kolkata, Dec 3: West Bengal government will handover 100 acres of land in Rajarhat to IT major Infosys in March 2007.

West Bengal Industry Secretary Sabyasachi Sen said here today that land mapping in this area has already started.

''We have already completed the landmapping in Rajarhat Infocity which comprise of 800 acres of land. We will invite Infosys in the state to handover the land once the modalities were complted,'' he said.

Asked about th price of the land, Mr Sen said West Bengal Industrial Development Corporation would decided on the price of the land.

Infosys's would set up a software development centre in the state with an investment of Rs 250 crore.

The West Bengal government had recently assured leading IT companies like TCS, Wipro and Infosys of resolving problems relating to land acquisition in the state very soon.

With major IT companies eyeing West Bengal as an important investment destination, the IT sector in the state would generate employment for about 2.5 lakh people by 2011, from currently 45,000, state IT industry sources said.

Industry sources said the booming IT sector in the state would also account for 15 per cent of the country's total IT revenues by 2011 from 2-3 per cent currently.
