Uttar Pradesh score 262 on first day of C K Nayadu Trophy

Patiala, Dec 2 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh were confortably placed at 261 for five on the first day of their three-day quarter-final match against Kerala in the C K Nayadu Trophy (Under-22) here today.

Arish Alam was unbeaten at 66 with seven fours and Ashwani Mandani was not out at 32 with six fours when the umpires stopped the match three overs before the allotted 90 overs due to bad light.

Alam played some scorching drives on the front foot and looked to be well set for a century when play resumes tomorrow.

Mandani too played aggressively and showed scant respect to the Kerala bowlers.

The other main scorer for UP were Saurabh Singh with 42, Tahir Abbas 57 and Ali Murtaza 40.

For Kerala, Sunil V S took two for 29 and P Prashant two for 56.

Kerala's ground fielding was superb all throughout the day.
